Restoration of Gadfly, a 1931 Hutchinson
“Gadfly” is a 33-foot 1931 Hutchinson Sedan restored at Tumblehome Boatshop. The boat got new stringers, chine logs, keel, bottom frames, and bottom planking — all restored using the same construction methods as built. This stately boat is owned by the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY, and is used by the museum for tours on the St. Lawrence River. Hutchinson boats were built not at a factory, but by skilled boatbuilders who crafted each boat individually at the Hutchinson Boat Works yard in Alexandria Bay, NY. These were boats built to handle the choppy water of the St. Lawrence River, and customized to customer specifications for fishing, commuting, and cruising.
